Schema Theory posits that individuals integrate new knowledge by connecting it to their existing mental structures, known as schemata. This means that when a learner encounters new information, they do not view it in isolation; instead, they relate it to what they already know. By doing so, they create meaningful associations that enhance understanding and retention.

For instance, if a student has a schema for social animals and they learn about a new species like dolphins, they will build upon their existing understanding of animals such as dogs and elephants to understand the social behaviors of dolphins. This organization of new information into existing schemata is crucial for deep learning since it allows for easier retrieval of knowledge and a more profound grasp of concepts.

Choosing other options misses this core aspect. Ignoring new knowledge does not resonate with the principles of Schema Theory, which emphasizes the importance of context and prior knowledge in learning. Claims about direct memorization also go against the idea that meaningful connections facilitate deeper understanding. Lastly, saying that new knowledge cannot relate to previous experiences contrasts fundamentally with the very basis of Schema Theory, which underscores the importance of those connections.
